Last night, for the first time, Eddie Vedder played in Melbourne without the rest of Pearl Jam and I was lucky enough to have tickets.
The set was amazing, old suitcases, speakers, tape player all resting on an old dusty rug. Eddie sat there and made you feel as if you were in your own front room, but with a second glance you would then see the huge bat wings set into the back drop of the stage as if to make Eddie look angelic...if that's the right word to use? You could feel the power he holds over his fans and to them he really is God.
Eddie played some new songs on his uke and told us of his new solo album that is to be released filled with old and new songs collected over the years.
The setlist included some Pearl Jam classics like a new version of "Better Man", soundtracks from the film Into The Wild, great versions of You’ve Got To Hide Your Love Away (The Beatles cover, originally from the I Am Sam soundtrack) and Rockin’ In The Free World (Neil Young cover) – this was one of my evening highlights, along with Hard Sun, the crowd went mad and the whole theatre was on their feet in ore.
